Four young ambassadors from the Diocese of Kimberley and Kuruman in South Africa have been visiting Link Parishes here in the Diocese of Oxford. They visited us at Saint John’s, Lacey Green, on the afternoon and evening of 4th July. Our four guests on that day were Cara who is a young Theologian who comes from De Aar and is in her final year of study at Stellenbosch University, Kgothatso who is a young Medic who comes from Galeshewe and who is also studying at Stellenbosch, Rethabile who is a young lawyer who comes from the Parish of St Francis and is studying in Pretoria, and Thato who is a young woman in paid work who comes from the Parish of Greenpoint. They joined us in Church for a Service of Evening Prayer after which a lavish “English Tea” was served. There followed a group discussion of the issues and concerns facing our respective communities and churches. The visit ended with a brief service of Night Prayer in the Celtic tradition which concluded what had been a most interesting and stimulating encounter.
